Last weekend, Historic Downtown Hattiesburg held their annual Fall ArtWalk. These photos describe the experience outside of Main Street Books, a client of ours located in the downtown area. For those of you still doubting that customers buy experiences, I won’t tell you – these photos show you. The customers had a ball eating cotton candy and watching Elizabeth Huffmaster paint. This bookstore provides a complete experience in their renovated building with raw brick walls and twinkling lights. The festive music, the painting, the cotton candy – it sounds straight from a storybook – and you could
buy one of those, too, if you wanted to take the story home with you.
The bonus – the media couldn’t resist the experience either. Not only did the store get three days of media coverage (that’s where we got these photos – the local newspaper) surrounding her part in this weekend event, but she was photographed for a major regional magazine, too. The buzz is spreading about Main Street Books – and it’ll spread about your business, too, if you do something worth talking about.
Small business marketing tip: Script experiences that are concrete – that you can talk about in your marketing and that your customers will talk about long after they leave your store.
