There are lots of wonderful articles and advice floating around the blogosphere from some of my favorite bloggers lately giving advice. The bottom line is what we, at HALO Business Advisors, have been teaching in our seminar "Thrive! Don't Just Survive" since July of this year: TAKE CARE OF THE BASICS.
Many of us in the bloated economy of recent years have become complacent and sloppy in our business practices. And we did o.k. (and in some cases, very profitable) anyway. I for one, am very thankful for the challenge of this new economy – because it is going to make us all better business owners – or we'll just go out of business. The threat or perceived danger of this scenario is motivating us as never before.
So, to add yet another regular column to the blog – I'm adding a regular post called "Back to Basics: Secrets to Success in our New (Uncertain) Economy." In it, I will basically link to the articles from other perfectly intelligent bloggers that I believe will hit home to you, as a small business owner, those basic concepts for business success. Happy reading!
Are You Waffling – John Jantsch – Great fundamental concept regarding target customers. A generic definition isn't a target at all.
10 Branding Brownie Points – Ed Roach – building faith in your business doesn't always rest in the big stuff – maybe it's time to sweat some of the small stuff. Great advice that we all need to hear!
True Urgency Can Save a Business – Business Pundit – Great article about the ways business owners react to crisis and what we SHOULD do versus what we often do.
Finding Business Opportunities – Steve Woodruff – This is the one everyone has been waiting for – but it means working hard. The opportunities are out there.
