Optimizing your Facebook Presence

0 Comments 01 April 2009

Loved this link that Andy just found on Twitter via Mashable – one my personal favo sources for all things technical and social media… It’s a great blog to read daily if you’re looking to grow your list…

I really loved the 4th tip on their list since this is something we’ve been recommending and setting up for small business clients of ours for several months now for Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter (primarily) – the add-on to the www.facebook.mydomain.com format is that this also provides a certain amount of tracking/measurement since this link routes through your own domain’s server…and measurement leads to continuous improvement which is smart business.

5 Tips for Optimizing Your Brand’s Facebook Presence.

Creating your own vanity URL
While it’s rumored that Facebook will eventually open up vanity urls to all brands, for now only preferred partners get these (eg: http://www.Facebook.com/mashable). Until then, you can create your own with a domain redirect. If you own your own domain (and frankly, who doesn’t), set up http://facebook.mydomain.com to point to your profile. Easy to remember, easy to share. Obviously, the same tactic applies to profiles you may set up on Twitter (Twitter reviews), LinkedIn (LinkedIn reviews), etc, but this is most useful with those tricky Facebook URLs.
